Rugby Credit Union are now offering homeowners in Rugby an affordable way of paying for costly energy efficiency measures in the home. With the support of Rugby Borough Council and the Warwickshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre the Credit Union now have Green Loans available.

The Green Loan scheme is offering homeowners low cost loans towards a range of energy efficiency measures including loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, heating systems to include a condensing boiler and better heating controls.

Daniel Threlfall, 39, is a family man working and living in Rugby. Daniel recently discovered one morning that his hot water system was not working. Further inspection showed that the boiler was a write-off. With a young family, heat and hot water was essential.
Daniel had heard of the Green Loan Scheme and approached the Rugby Credit Union for help. The Credit Union had no hesitation in recommending the Green Loan scheme.

"When the boiler broke down and we had no hot water or heating I had to replace it immediately", says Daniel. "The Credit Union was fantastic. The whole business from start to finish took a little time. I was asked to obtain three quotes for the work from local installers. Information was given on energy saving measures which included cavity wall and loft insulation. The Credit Union then approved my loan and on completion the Credit Union paid the contractor. I am really grateful to the Credit Union. I wish they had been here years ago."

How do Green Loans work?

Homeowners who live within the boundaries of the borough of Rugby are eligible for a Green Loan. Membership of the Credit Union is a requirement. The loans are competitive and are tailored to the requirements of the member. For example, if you borrow £1,000 through the Green Loan scheme and pay it back over two years you pay back only £1,118.45.
